In 2012, Dr. Peter Frieß took over the Patek Philippe Museum. Since then he is engaged to oversee the magnificent private collection of the company’s Honorary President, Philippe Stern. Patek Philippe was looking for a museum and watch expert to organize, complete, and bring to a wide public the world’s most important collection of time pieces. Dr. Frieß is not only a recognized figure in the museum world, but also a master watchmaker, patented inventor, educator, and art historian, who has helped redefine the relationship between art and technology.

He has worked with such leading cultural institutions as the Deutsches Museum in Munich, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, and the Tech Museum of Innovation in Silicon Valley. His signal achievements include building a contemporary science museum in Bonn, Germany; co-curating an international exhibition celebrating the centenary of the Nobel Prize. He describes himself as an instinctive and enthusiastic border-crosser, who feels equally at home collaborating with artists, craftsmen, scientists, or historians.

In the Patek Philippe Museum, Peter Frieß found his dream job, which, he says, “put me into direct contact with the world’s most creative watchmakers and skilled craftsmen of all kinds.
